Here Come The Hawks

January 18th, 2008 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

Blackhawks vs Bluesthe mighty Bl-a-a-a-ckhawks. Everybody! Any time that you get a chance to watch hockey at the United Center, from the sweet United Airlines suite… you take it. And when it’s a game that you would actually pay to go see anyway, it’s bonus level time! Thanks, Mighty D.R., for the last-minute (oh, who are we kidding… last-second) set of “owner’s box” tix to see the Blackhawks club the Blues. And we mean club. “Red ice!” By the way, was it wrong to get three desserts “to go,” from the Fruit and Dessert Table? Nah, we didn’t think so either.

Samba De Janeiro Na Chicago

September 10th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

USA vs Brazil in ChicagoWhen the world’s best team comes to town, and they bring with them the world’s best player… you flat-out do not mess around. You buy two tickets in the Sam’s Army section at Soldier Field and prepare to do battle. (Or, simply the best you can against Brazil and Ronaldinho [whom we saw destroy England first hand in the 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup with one sick assist and one MF’ing incredible goal, when he still wore #11].)

M.C. followed-up USA’s 4-2 (but pretty close) loss with the great suggestion of heading over to Coalfire for dinner to drown our sorrows. As Mario says: “Mamma Mia.” We’ll definitely be back. Oh yeah… we’ll get you next time Torcida do Brasil.

US Soccer Is Golden

June 26th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

2007 Gold Cup ChampionsAhh, karma. Sometimes you’ve just got to <3 it... when you've been good that is. Maybe as some form of “Karma Kredit” (similar to a Schrute Buck, no doubt) for my not flipping-out from the Berkcam® getting lost in the ether on Saturday and enjoying M.L. and T’s “Big Fat Italian Wedding” till the break of dawn on Sunday… I got a major ticket upgrade for the next day’s 2007 Gold Cup Tournament Final at Soldier Field.

Goodbye, south goal’s 22nd row… hello, center pitch’s 6th row! And not just my two, but four, free additional $155.00 tickets to boot. Thankfully(?) I’m addicted to Sweet Mandy B’s, or I’d never have bumped into D.B. at John’s Place for him to gift me some Sprint V.I.P. tickets, after meeting my old UW “7 West Crew” at McGee’s for brunch. (Note: not as cool as Chicago Bear Greg Olsen’s UM “7th Floor Crew“… but we had the name first.) Back to the 2007 Gold Cup Tournament Final, though, after the jump.

From Daley Plaza With Love

May 25th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

Chicago Critical MassOh, my… after a week like the last, could there not be peace and quiet off my balcony for one night? (Though I must admit, it’s always fun to see a semi-flash mob in action. Especially when you don’t have anywhere to be.)

Chicago Critical Mass made their monthly rounds last night and decided to up and hang in my hood for a fair amount of time. But, who wouldn’t? Say, let’s try and get the Rat Patrol out here next time, too. Those guys totally rock it! Berksclusive’s® and an FOB follow.

Pants Party/Dog Day at The Cell

May 12th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

Cellular FieldThe frenetic Deadspin blogosphere descended upon The Cell yesterday, in the form of its inaugural Deadspin Midwest Pants Party… and on Dog Day no less.

Now make no mistake, this crew can blog (and I mean b-l-o-g) about anything sports-related, but actually hanging out with them in person was like hanging out with a bunch of characters from Gary Larson’s The Far Side’s Midvale School For The Gifted.

… Ain’t That The Trooth

April 21st, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

Toothless WondersTwo Cubs games attended, two losses observed (and yet another one run-er, Cardinals 2 - Cubs 1, to boot!). But we don’t really come for the baseball anyway, do we? Nah… just keep drinking (until they stop serving in the eighth, that is). Know your vendors, and collect them all.

Old Style, Here!

April 13th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics, Chicago

Old Style OpenerAnd so it begins. (No, not another Cubs losing season… those began 99 years ago.) The wait to see how long it takes until one can leave his winter jacket at home, before heading out to the old ballpark. I’m thinking May.

#1, We Hardly Knew Ye

February 20th, 2007 by Berklie in Athletics

#1 Badgers ShirtYes’sir! Just barely had the time to get that “#1 Ranked Basketball Tee” order in at Bucky’s Locker Room… before Bucky was knocked right back down to, oh, #5 or #6? (Hell, a loss tonight to MSU? Make that #15 or #16.)

Bucky can still save some face at OSU this Sunday; the other #1.
