I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning
Bright Eyes were in town last night, and I had a naive plan to go to the show at Riviera Theatre and then simply come home and pack for D.C. But nooo; it just couldn’t end there, could it? We just had to stay up all night, didn’t we?
Berksclusive® photos and video after the jump (including the entire, night-closing performance of Road to Joy). Doesn’t ring a bell? I’ll bet you heard it on the “Heroes” pilot. And if you’ve got a good ear (and some classical knowledge)… you’ll realize its killer riff is a play on Beethoven’s Ode to Joy. Wunderbar!
Our long, long night… in photos. (Though even we recognize that ex-Sleater-Kinney, rhythm-pushing galpal Janet Weiss must have been just as zzz’ed from kit-hopping all night.)
Update: June 10th, 2007
The New York Times challenged artist Andrew Kuo to test his obsession with Bright Eyes by sending him “(alone!) to see all seven recent Bright Eyes shows at Town Hall in Manhattan” and report on his findings. Memo to NYTimes: send me next.

Road to Joy at Riviera Theatre on Monday, April 23, 2007. “Let’s f*ck it up girls, make some noise!”
And just as a super-happy-fun-time extra; my favorite video from their 2005 release I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning, At the Bottom of Everything. (Which they didn’t play… boo!)
